Andy Murray’s speech at 2012 Wimbledon final

Ok so its not design, but this speech by Andy Murray in Sunday’s final at Wimbledon was quite emotional and found myself in tears too watching it. I don’t care what people say about Sport, the fact that as some people say “oh its just hitting/kicking a ball about”… Well if doing that brings together lots of people from all walks of life to cheer someone on who’s doing well, surely thats inspiring. In this year of sport with the Olympics round the corner, so many young people will pin their hopes on a medal inspiring many others to give things a go. If it encourages one person to pick up a racket or kick a ball, to change their lives – then it can’t be all bad.

As for Andy Murray, he hasn’t always been such a gracious loser in the past but this speech at losing the 2012 Wimbledon final to Roger Federer has shown he has a human side and he just wants to do well. It was both moving and articulate and I really hope he gets his dream sometime in the future. As I’m quite proud of my Scottish roots, I think the boy from Dunblane did good! Well done for a great Wimbledon and I wish you all the best for next year!
